MemoryLifter Recorder

This is a simple first steps tutorial to show how to use the MemoryLifter Recorder for recording and attaching audio files to MemoryLifter Learning Modules.

Only the basic functions are explained in this document. If you have any questions regarding the other functions in this tool, please visit our forum on www.memorylifter.com to get quick support from us or the community.

 

Requirements for using this tool:

  • Basic knowledge of MemoryLifter
  • Learning Module to which you want to attach audio files
  • Microphone attached to your PC

 

Check windows sound settings (Windows XP)

1. Attach your microphone to your PC / Laptop.

2. Verify that your PC / Laptop recognizes the microphone.

3. Go toStart” - ”Programs” - ”Accessories” -”Entertainment” - ”Volume Control”.

The window ”Master Volume” opens.

4. Go toOptions” - ”Properties”.

The window ”Properties” opens.

5. Activate the radio button ”Recording”.

6. Go toMixer device:” and choose your microphone from the drop-down box.

7. ClickOK” to confirm your adjustments.

 

Check windows sound settings (Windows Vista/7)

1. Attach your microphone to your PC / Laptop.

2. Verify that your PC / Laptop recognizes the microphone.

3. Go toStart” and type “Sound” in the search field and click the “Sound” entry which will show up

The window ”Sound” opens.

4. Go toRecording”.

5. Click the microphone to use.

6. Click Set Default”.

7. ClickOK” to confirm your selection.

 

Record your audio files

8. Start the MemoryLifter Recorder.

9. Choose your favorite Layout.

10. Load the learning module you want to make recordings for.

11. Select the language for questions and answers.

12. (optional) SelectFile” - ”Settings…” to change settings.

13. (optional) Select the queues you would like to create recordings for.

14. (optional) Decide whether you need recording delays. Use the controls to adjust the delay-times.

This function cuts the first and last milliseconds of each recording. It prevents clicking-sounds of your keyboard or mouse in your audio files.

15. (optional) ClickSave and Close” to save the changes.

16. Select those words on the right hand side for which you want to create recordings.

17. Click on the first card to activate it.

18. Click on the record button on the screen or press the assigned key on your keyboard to start the recordings.

19. Click on the stop button on the screen or press the assigned key on your keyboard to stop the recordings.

Notice: Every recording you make will be saved automatically!

20. Repeat steps 18 and 19 to make all recordings.

Notice: Each word/sentence for which you already recorded an audio-file will be highlighted green.

Settings – General

Recording Queue

Choose to which property of each flashcard you want to assign an audio-file.

Question/Answer Language

Choose the language of the questions/examples.

Recording Delay

This function cuts the first and last milliseconds of each recording.
It prevents clicking-sounds of your keyboard or mouse in your audio files.

Current Layout

You can switch between the NumPad or Keyboard layout.

 

Settings – Audio Encoding

Audio Settings

By default, the pre-defined values should fit the average user's needs. Nevertheless you can change the Sampling-Rate and Channels to customize your recordings.

Encoder Settings

You may choose which encoder you want to use, e.g. to create .mp3 or .ogg audio files. Encoders help to reduce the space your recording files need on the disk. Please note that only the correctly adjusted encoders appear in the list. For help and further information on this issue, please visit our forum on www.memorylifter.com!

 

Settings – NumPad-Assignments

In this tab, you can assign the different recorder-functions (record, play, forward, backward) to the Number-Block-Keys.

 

Settings – Keyboard-Assignments

In this tab, you can assign the different recorder-functions (record, play, forward, backward) to the standard keyboard layout.

 

Settings – Presenter-Assignments

In this tab, you can choose if you want to use a presenter to start/stop your recordings.
